Q&A: KATIANNA VELOS
What is your go-to fashion tip that can save any clothing crisis?
Always a good pair of sunglasses. The can dress up even the worst of outfits and make you look put together on any occasion.
We are launching our second SUMMERY x KATVEL very soon (YAY!), which style are you currently most excited to show to your followers and why?
I am so excited to share with you the new collection with Summery that has been inspired by so many wonderful events over the last year. I’m truly in love the the Bianca dress with its sleek silhouette, subtle shimmer detail, plunging neckline and long elegant straps. I think the red colour with the matching headband is a gentle nod to summers of the past, with the glitter adding a playful modern touch!
What do you like most about the SUMMERY spirit?
I love the sense of happiness and freedom that Summery instils in its community that shines through the brand’s colourful clothes. Summery is such an international brand bringing people together from all sides of the earth and this really resonates with me.
We know you are traveling around Italy all summer. Do you have any Italian travel or food recommendations for all the SUMMERY girls?
I have so many!! I must say I’m addicted to uncovering new parts of Italy and sharing my travel tips with everyone around me. For a quiet, off the grid beachside holiday, I love the Aeolian Islands. Island hop each other islands in the summer months. The best food city for me is Naples, with so many street eats. Naples is a city people always underestimate but every time I go, I fall more in love. Have aperitivi in Piazzetta Nilo.
What are your upcoming travel plans for this European summer? This summer I'm splitting my time between Greece and Italy. My plans are to spend time in Capri, Ischia and the Amalfi coast. For Greece, I spend the month of August in my family's part of Greece the Mani Peninsula, and also some of the quotes islands in the Cyclades. Folegandros is on the list of islands to explore this summer, as well as returning to cherished places like Hydra. I prefer quieter locations as August tends to get busy.
We love your idea of being bi-continental — always living under the sun. What are the notable differences between Australian and European summers? Also, in terms of fashion?
Australian summer is more pared back and relaxed than European summer. It's a time when our beaches and cities to come to life, where we can have fish and chips on the beach and watch the sunset, al fresco dinners on the street and head north for some ocean swims. Australian fashion is very effortless and we tend to stick with more neutral colours, sleek looks and things you can easily throw over the top of bathers. European summer on the other hand, is a worldwide event. Australians, Europeans and everyone from all over the world flock to the warmer destinations to celebrate the most beautiful time of the year in the warmer climate. European summer feels like an event in and of itself and people plan year round their summer wardrobes to make a statement while on holiday.
I find that Europeans are well versed, naturally, in dressing for the summer with quality, light pieces they can wear year after year- such as many linen numbers or crochet coverups. Europeans make a very considered effort to dress up stylishly each time they leave the house. Fashion is an instinct here that most possess without having to think or try too hard. Notable differences are that you see a lot more colour in Europe than you do in Australia, and that even the older Europeans dress immaculately with a lot of attention to detail and care. It's so heartwarming to watch people young and old congregate outside long after the sun has set, until the early hours of the morning, sharing stories and food with friends and family - even in the smallest of villages. European summer is truly magical and I look forward to this time every year.
